Welcome to Free Range Camping e-news

Hello and welcome to Spring.  Unfortunately however it has not been the best of starts with many parts of the country on fire.  As campers it is a timely reminder to please heed all warnings and fire ban restrictions that are put in place.  And, please remember if you are permitted to have a fire, make sure you don’t leave it unattended, and ensure it is well and truly extinguished before you leave your site.

In this week’s edition we look at…

  • Campfire Safety
  • Living on the road full time
  • The latest camping gear in the FRC Shop
  • The latest Campsites & RV Businesses
  • Events for campers around the country

Safety Tips for your campfire

Spring has started with an unprecedented number of bushfires burning uncontrollably around the country.  Some unfortunately have been intentionally lit, others through varying circumstances.  As campers we all enjoy a campfire, but we should all remember some simple campfire safety rules.   Rule No 1.  If there is a total fire ban in place, DON’T LIGHT A FIRE.

Please take some time to read the attached article courtesy of the department of Fire & Emergency services in WA.  The guidelines pertain not only to WA but all around Australia

Travelling around Australia in a bus or van

When we started our Journey seven years ago we had no idea about what it would be like to live full time on the road.  We converted and old school bus into a Motorhome and together with our two children hit the road fulltime.  It took us a few months to settle into it, but it fast became a new way of life and one that we quickly grew to love.

What astounded us was the fascination it created for others.  We got so many questions about what it was like, and how to do it.  Whilst at Free Range Camping we love to share our experiences on how we did it, we also love hearing other people’s stories about how they made the change to full time living on the road.

We recently got in touch with Kev and Cristina.  They call themselves Nomads around Australia, and similar to us, they live in a bus travelling Australia.  They have a fascinating story of their own, and have gone one step further by creating a website where they interview other nomads who chose to live and travel around Australia in a Bus or Van.

You can read more about Kev and Cristina in our article and also see many of the interviews they have undertaken with other nomads.  If you have ever wanted to ‘live the dream’ check out their stories here.
