Welcome to 2019

Welcome to the New Year!  We hope you all made the most of the Christmas and New Year break and many of you got to enjoy the festive season while out camping.  We started the New Year off with a quick road trip from Sydney back to FRC HQ, on the Sunshine Coast, and checked out a few new campsites along the way. 

During the course of 2019, we aim to bring you many more improvements and member benefits to Free Range Camping, including a host of new campsites, more RV Businesses offering savings to our members, and lots of new features in the App.   So please join us as we welcome you to grow with us and share your camping experiences along the way.

Premium Maps - Upgrades

Before the Christmas break, we released Versions 2.0 of our App, which now provides better and quicker access to all areas of the website.  Over the break, we continued with improvements and are happy to advise we have now added more new features to the app.  Due out this week, these will include:

Places of Interest – Now you can find other places of interest such as ATM's Fuel stations, Cafes & more that are not necessarily FRC Business Partners, but services or locations you may still need. 

Collections & Bookmarks - We have revamped our collections section so you can now add notes to your favourite campsites as well as edit them to allow better organisation. 

Map View Toggle - There are now 3 types of maps views available.  Default, Satellite & Terrain.  Select your preferred option from a drop-down menu.

These updates will be available inside Google Play & iTunes stores this week, so make sure to keep an eye out for the update notification.

Weather - We are now working on our weather overlay, which will have the ability to have weather updates and overlays in the map and for each campsite.  Stay tuned for this update.

Travel Planner - Work has also begun on this exciting feature which will make planning trips so much easier.

Tips on how to make the most of camping when it rains

It’s that time of year again where most of us love to be out camping, but also the same time of year we are often subjected to summer rain and storms and in some cases lots of them. 

Whilst continual rain when camping can be a nuisance to some of us, it is greatly needed in many parts of our drought affected areas.  So, rather than curse it, we should learn to camp around it. 

In this blog post, we share some tips we have picked up along the way, both from our own experiences and those of others, which offer some solutions that allow you to still enjoy your camping adventure, even if it is raining. 

Jugiong, NSW

Not far from the hustle and bustle of the big city of Sydney lies the quaint little village of Jugiong.  Easy to bypass if you didn’t know it was there, this is truly a must stop at spot.  This small farming locality is transforming itself into an iconic location with a host of eclectic galleries and places to eat, and a free camp right on the rivers edge making it the ideal place to stay for a few days.
